Kurzbeschreibung: With the advent of clinical governance, health professionals are being increasingly called upon to examine the ethics that lie behind treatment decisions.

Discussions about ethics and decision making are now expected to be conducted in the public arena, and are increasingly subject to public scrutiny. For example, as evidence grows regarding cost-effective care, health managers are also expected to be able to justify the management of scarce resources.

We are seeing a number of debates about national evidence-based recommendations, such as those produced by NICE, that limit treatment for individuals, in order to shift resources to health care areas which will benefit the majority.

Health professionals need tools that can help them to consider all aspects of controversial decisions, and to justify these decisions to individual patients and the general public.

This course has been running for 3 years and will help a wide range of health care professionals to deal with the difficult decisions they have to make on a day-to-day basis.
