This course aims at being an introduction to genetics in public health, for health professionals of all categories, but in particular for persons working in health management.
Topics include: an overview of the principles of genetics and genetic disease, genetic tests and their evaluation, issues in reproductive genetics, genetic screening for late-onset disease, genetics of common diseases, pharmacogenetics, genetic information: legal issues, the public image of genetics, genetic engineering, gene therapy, genetics policy in the future.
The course will include lectures by teachers from the Nordic countries as well as from the UK. There will be rich opportunities for discussions around controversial topics introduced during lectures, or by students, as well as for viewing genetics from the point of view of different stakeholders. Scheduled study time may include evenings (1-2), and Saturday.
The student will be required to complete e-learning tasks before the course starts.
