Kurzbeschreibung: The conference will examine how medical and residency education can form physicians who seek to address the disparities in the health care provided to persons of color or minority status. Issues of access to care, the role and limits of the concepts of race and ethnicity in medical treatment and research, cultural competence and differential treatment by the health-care system will be examined. The goal of the conference is to determine best educational practices in forming the physicians of tomorrow to address disparities and injustice.

The program will blend insights concerning problems of health disparities with reflection on their meaning for educational practice and curricular development.

Objectives- At the end of this conference, participants should be able to:

1. Identify challenges to the medical profession and medical education in recruiting and developing a racially and ethnically diverse generation of physicians.

2. Analyze educational approaches to developing physicians equipped to address health disparities.

3. Analyze and apply best practices in developing cultural competence.
