Kurzbeschreibung: The Global Forum for Bioethics in Research is an informal partnership established by a number of organizations with a shared interest in the ethics of conducting research involving human beings in developing countries. It provides a platform for developing country researchers, ethicists, and key members of civil society to debate issues of importance informed by diverse cultural perspectives, and to interact with counterparts from the developed world, including granting agencies supporting research in the South. The Forum provides a unique international setting where developing country scientists, administrators, ethicists, and interested civil society can meet with counterparts from richer nations to share experience and debate issues on the basis of equality. The Forum meets annually, with an emphasis on case discussions and exchange of ideas.

The Forum first met in Bethesda in 1999. The second Forum was held in Bangkok in 2000, the third in Cape Town in February 2002, the fourth in Brasilia in October 2002, the fifth in Paris in April 2004, and the sixth in Blantyre, Malawi in March 2005.

The seventh Global Forum for Bioethics in Research (GFBR7) will be held at Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan from 17-19 February, 2006. AKU was founded in 1983 as Pakistan's first private university. Twenty years on, AKU has made significant contributions, both nationally and internationally, on a range of development challenges and now has ten teaching sites in three continents around the world. AKU continues, through research, to make important contributions to the global store of knowledge on the health sciences and educational development, particularly in the context of developing countries.
