Kurzbeschreibung: This year's Symposium is entitled 'Germ cells to stem cells'. The distinguished speakers will be discussing the formation and function of germ cells, the biology of stem cells in tissues other than the gonad, evidence that germ cells can differentiate from both embryonic and bone marrow stem cells as well as prospects for the use of stem cells in regenerative medicine. The Simpson Lecture will be delivered by Professor Alison Murdoch from Newcastle, UK.

In addition to opportunities for discussion during the scientific sessions there will be a round table with presenters on the last day. Participants are encouraged to submit abstracts of their current work.

There will be ample time for informal discussion during coffee and lunch breaks and at the social events.

The Simpson Symposia honour Sir James Young Simpson, the sixth holder of the University of Edinburgh Chair of Midwifery (1840-1870), and unquestionably a world leader in obstetric research.

The contents of the symposia are relevant and applicable to physicians, physicians in training, scientists and scientists in training.
