Kurzbeschreibung: The Mount Desert Island Stem Cell Symposium is a joint symposium of the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory and The Jackson Laboratory aimed at promoting the exchange of new ideas in the field of stem cell research. The 2006 Symposium will examine current research in particular cell types, diseases, and therapies in comparative species including mammals, fish, birds, and invertebrates.

The focus of the meeting is the role of stem cells; however, speakers will cover a range of topics including technology development, comparative genomics, transplantation, and genetics. All interested scientists are welcome to preregister and attend. Students are invited to attend at a reduced rate, and in addition, funds for travel and registration may be available. The symposium will immediately follow a companion workshop “Methods in Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research,” held at The Jackson Laboratory, August 6-11, 2006.
