Kurzbeschreibung: In the past decade, numerous advances in transplant medicine have allowed patients to live longer as well as live better with their new organs. However, new challenges have emerged in the management of certain aspects of transplantation. Infectious complications continue to be a major cause of morbidity and mortality in transplant patients. Futhermore, in addition to the common infections that affect transplant patients, emerging pathogens and problems include the threat of influenza pandemics, new and emerging fungal infections, and bacterial resistance to antibiotics. This activity is intended to provide physicians and related healthcare workers with a greater understanding of the continuously changing risk factors associated with infectious pathogens following transplantation and the treatment strategies available to them.

Intended Audience:

This conference is aimed at all healthcare providers, including physicians, nurses and allied healthcare professionals, with a specific interest in transplant medicine and infectious diseases.

Learning Format:

This conference will utilize lectures, plenary sessions and audiovisual enhancement. Statements of credit will be issued to participants upon submission of registration and evaluation forms.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this activity, the participants will be able to:

• Explain new trends and therapeutic strategies in the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases in transplant patients
