Kurzbeschreibung: Clinical ethics consultation aims to provide practitioners with aims to solve moral issues in their daily work. Often, the ethicist is seen as an expert, proving knowledge about ethics. The aim of this paper is to present an alternative, contextual approach to clinical ethics, which is grounded in hermeneutic and dialogical ethics. This approach is called moral deliberation. Within moral deliberation, health care professionals bring in their actual moral questions during a structured dialogue. The ethicist facilitates the learning process by using various conversation methods in order to find answers to the case and to develop moral competencies. The case deliberations are not unique events, but should become a structural part of the professional training on the work floor within health care institutions. I will illustrate this approach with an example of a moral deliberation project in a Dutch psychiatric hospital.
