Kurzbeschreibung: The acronym Tiss.EU (www.tisseu.org) stands for “Evaluation of Legislation and Related Guidelines on the Procurement, Storage and Transfer of Human Tissues and Cells in the European Union — an Evidence- Based Impact Analysis”. The project’s aim is to assess the impact made by European Union’s regulatory activities to date on research with human tissue in the member states (plus Switzerland). To this end, the project will gather and compare national legislative instruments and ethical guidelines with the help of external experts and make these data available to the public. As a culmination of the project, recommendations are to be drafted for possible ethical and legal guidelines in the interests of Europeanwide convergence and harmonisation.

The Second International Conference of the Tiss.EU project will focus on the following topics:

• National regulations concerning privacy and confidentiality in the field of human tissue research

• Practical approaches in ethics and law to the protection of privacy and confidentiality

• Personality rights as means for the protection of human tissue donors’ rights and interest?

• Challenges to privacy and confidentiality in the field of human tissue research

• Protection of vulnerable populations and tissue research

• Theoretical approaches to the meaning of privacy and confidentiality in the context of biobanking and genetic research with human tissue.
