Kurzbeschreibung: Biodiversity has been a powerful catch word since the late 20th century. The word represents the iconic meaning of environmental balance of the Earth and has been of immense importance to different disciplines ranging from the natural to the social sciences. Vital interest is brought towards it by policy makers and projects. However, this concept is perceived, communicated and exploited in a great variety of ways.
How has the concept of biodiversity been translated and perceived by different scientific and popular disciplines? How can natural and social sciences usefully talk about a concept as powerful as biodiversity? The workshop (De-)Constructing Biodiversity encourages participants from diverse disciplines to find out about the common ground for research on biodiversity. It seeks to provide a discussion forum for a fruitful multidisciplinary engagement with the concept of biodiversity.
