Kurzbeschreibung: Our ethical experience depends on a fundamental distinction between what we are responsible for versus what is given to us. As such, the boundary between chance and choice is the spine of conventional morality, and any serious shift in that boundary is thoroughly dislocating. Against this background, an international group of philosophers, economists and theologians will focus on the relationship between justice, luck and responsibility in health care during this two-day conference. This conference has a double objective. First, it wants to provide a comprehensive philosophical framework for understanding the concepts of justice, luck and responsibility in health care. What do we mean when using these notions, and how do they relate to each other? Secondly, it wants to explore whether these concepts have practical force to guide normative discussions: are they well-suited to guide us in particular contexts of health care and end-of-life care? Or should we perhaps look for alternative perspectives?
