Kurzbeschreibung: The Netherlands Commission on Genetic Modification is organizing an international symposium to reflect on and discuss the current status of GM animals. Recent developments in the field of genetic modification and cloning of animals have spurred public and political debate on this topic in Europe. The animals currently under discussion have a more direct impact on the public than other biotechnological animals, usually used in scientific research. They serve e.g. as food, or are aimed at solving environmental or health issues.
With this symposium, COGEM wants to give insight in the current developments in this field, to address possible environmental impacts of these developments and to make an inventory of the ethical and societal aspects surrounding this subject.
