Kurzbeschreibung: Giving everyone access to affordable health care forms a huge societal challenge. This especially the case in the United States and Western European countries, where health care expenditures have been rising dramatically over the last couple of decades. Which criteria should guide decisions in health care? Is there a way to reconcile justice, efficiency and high-quality care or do these constitute an inevitable trilemma? How should we set priorities and limits while providing fair chances for everyone?

This workshop will tackle these crucial questions from the perspectives of both ethics and economics. Our keynote speaker will be Prof. Dr. Daniel Hausman whose most recent book is titled: Valuing Health: Well-Being, Freedom, and Suffering (Oxford University Press, 2015). In addition, there are four speakers, each of whom is working on urgent issues within health care ethics and/or health economics.

Attendance is free. Please register by sending an e-mail to Bart Engelen (b.engelen@uvt.nl) before March 6.
