Kurzbeschreibung: The workshop aims to bring together young scholars (PhD students and young postdocs) from all healthcare-related disciplines and professions (such as medicine, medical ethics, nursing science, public health, law, social sciences and philosophy) to discuss professional ethics at the End of Life (EOL). The special focus will be on comparisons between France and Germany, but other countries will also be considered. The conference offers the opportunity for intense exchange among the participants and discussions with renowned experts. Applicants are invited to submit abstracts related to the following subjects:

1. Clinical practice, attitudes, socio-cultural backgrounds
- professionals’ participation in specific EOL practices (e.g. terminal sedation, physician assisted suicide, palliative extubation)
- professionals’ involvement in new procedures at the EOL (e.g. organ donation after circulatory death)
- professionals’ practices embedded in societies and cultures
- organisational cultures’ influence on professional values

2. Interprofessional cooperation at the EOL
- professional and non-professional caregiving at the EOL
- obligations and rights concerning professional integrity and self-determination
- interprofessional decision-making processes in clinical practice
- interprofessional education on EOL cooperation

3. Professional standards at the EOL
- professional organisations’ positions (e.g. professional codes, norms, position statements) concerning ethical issues at the EOL
- relationship between professionals’ self-perception and normative standards
- (historical) transformation of healthcare professional organisations’ normative positions

In addition to the coverage of costs for travel, meals and accommodation, all workshop participants will receive a remuneration of 300 €. The venue is located directly on the Baltic Sea, surrounded by an inspiring landscape. The workshop will be held in English; full attendance is required. An edited volume and a joint position paper are planned for dissemination of the results.
