Kurzbeschreibung: Caring for neonates brings with it number of challenging situations for paediatric & neonatal teams. The European Neonatal Ethics Conference is being organised on the 14th and 15th of November 2019. A team of neonatal consultants, ethics experts and legal minds are helping facilitate a get together featuring facilitated conversations with parents, simulation and debates to address ethical, and moral dilemmas as well as difficult situations. In addition there will be plenary talks by clinicians addressing a variety of issues including extremes of viability, palliative care & communication with parents, as well as medical mediation. There will also be workshops on parental perspectives in limiting life sustaining care, limiting nutrition Topics include but are not limited to Concepts creating controversy at extremes of viability such as gestational ageism and benevolent injustice Current evidence looking at outcomes with regards to extreme prematurity, organ transplantation and neonates receiving therapeutic hypothermia influencing how we counsel parents and think of best interests Current evidence addressing ethical considerations in stopping resuscitation in the delivery room Cultural and religious considerations during withdrawal of life sustaining intensive care on the NICU Ethical issues in managing parental expectations, conflict and legal considerations during management of end of life care Considerations when the team is in moral or ethical conflict with regards to the direction of end of life care.
