Kurzbeschreibung: We have been preparing for the past three years to welcome you to the SIXTH WORLD CONGRESS OF BIOETHICS, which has, as its official topic "BIOETHICS; POWER AND INJUSTICE". Our scientific program is defined, the lectures and the support infrastructure under careful preparation, all according to the established chronogram. Those who attend in Brasilia will not regret it!

The number of scientific works received by the Organizing Commission surpassed all expectations. Among some 600 submissions, 288 free themes were (to be presented in 16 flanking rooms, divided by subject and language English, Spanish and Portuguese) and 140 posters. The expectation is to reach the sum of 1000 registrations.

In this start of century, our world experiences an unprecedented paradox in human history. The extraordinary scientific and technologic development reached in the last decades has shown to be increasingly excluding. At the same time that the median life expectancy in wealthy countries reaches age 80, in many poor nations it barely gets to 40. Besides the high cost of new technology, commercial interests have substituded the vital necessities when deciding on scientific research necessities. AIDS and malaria kill approximately the number of people every year, but the investments made in the first are 50 times larger than those made in the second. The problems of the poor do not touch the heart of the financial world.

In this context, BIOETHICS cannot become just one more neutral instrument trying to discuss and interpret reality. Indeed, it must, inserted in a new state of affairs and a new time, become concretely practical, applied, and in search of strong mechanisms to position itself towards reality and as much as possible to interfere in that same reality.
