A stimulating and interesting programme of plenary lectures, symposia, workshops, poster presentations and social events make HGM2004 an ideal forum to share information and results with scientists and companies. This is an increasingly exciting time for scientists working on the Human Genome and HGM2004 will continue promoting international collaboration. Scientific topics will include: Comparative Genomics, Promoter and Gene Structure, Analysis of Gene Expression, Proteomics and Structural Genomics, Epigenetic Mechanisms, Genome Wide Analysis of Gene Function, Model Organisms, Genome Variation, Medical Genomics, Genomics of Complex Diseases, Cancer Genomics, New Technologies, Bioinformatics, Data Bases and Data Integration, Systems Biology, Ethics, and a Public Awareness Forum.

HGM2004 will be held in Berlin, capital of Germany. For those involved in medicine and science Berlin has many special historical associations. Today Berlin is a great centre for genetic and biomedical research. Besides the two schools of medicine including the historic Charite, Berlin hosts several internationally renowned research facilities such as the Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine or the Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Genetics. In addition, well over 100 biotechnology enterprises in and around the city make Berlin the leading biotech region in Germany. Since reunification nearly fifteen years ago Berlin has undergone a metamorphosis; it is once again the home of Germany's parliament and the centre of its federal government; the city's historic heart is revitalized and pulsing with life. Visitors enjoy its elegant cafes; exciting bars; many fascinating museums; vibrant arts; music both classical and modern; and wonderful parks and gardens.
