Kurzbeschreibung: Compassion, Community and Control at the End of Life: Dying Well in the 21st Century is a multidisciplinary conference designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of the various professionals concerned with care for people at the end of life. The conference will attend to both theoretical and practical issues. It will retrieve religious traditions and practices of caring for the dying. It will examine contemporary assumptions and practices. It will envision a future in which people die well and care well for the dying. Caring for the dying is, of course, a responsibility of doctors and nurses, but it is not a responsibility that belongs to them alone. The responsibility belongs also to family and friends, to communities of faith, and to society. Intended Audience: Physicians, nurses, physician assistants, hospice workers, social workers, cultural anthropologists, public policy makers, clergy, theologians and philosophical ethicists.
