Kurzbeschreibung: The mission of the Children’s Center for Pediatric Bioethics at Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle includes educating health care professionals about bioethical issues that affect children and providing a forum for the presentation of views that relate to pediatric bioethical issues.

In keeping with that mission, we are delighted to invite all interested individuals to attend our first annual conference in pediatric bioethics. This year's conference will focus on the controversies that arise when children participate in biomedical research.

Good research is ethical research and that requires investigators who take seriously the importance of participant welfare, meaningful informed consent and respect for research participants.

Among the topics to be addressed and the questions to be asked at this inaugural gathering: Are the current federal regulations that govern research with children too restrictive? Are they not protective enough? Does the requirement for child assent make sense and should it be modified? How do conflicts of interest undermine the goals of research and how can conflicts of interest be managed?

We have invited outstanding leaders in the field to address some of the most controversial topics in the ethics of research involving children. We hope you'll join us in our beautiful city in the Pacific Northwest for this exciting event!
