Professor Charles Vincent will chair the seminar.
In his presentation, Dr Oakley will outline several arguments in support of publishing surgeon-specific performance data: an argument from patient autonomy, an argument from professional accountability, and an argument that this improves the quality of surgical care.
He will then evaluate some common objections to public reporting of such data, drawing on empirical studies and recent developments in the US, the UK, and Australia.
With Dr Steve Clarke, Dr Oakley received the 2004 Eureka Prize for Research in Ethics for this work.
