Kurzbeschreibung: This course is intended for anyone with a professional interest in issues related to research ethics in universities, including committee members, research office administrators and managers, and academics. The course covers the types of ethical issues that arise during research and ethical issues in different types of research (e.g. qualitative methods) with a particular focus on student projects. As on all of our courses, sessions will be lively and interactive and make extensive use of case studies and small group discussions.

This course has run previously at Keele on the 19th January and the 20th September 2004, though with a slightly different timetable.

Attendees should acquire the following over the course of the day:

* An appreciation of the kinds of ethical issues that arise in research conducted in the higher education sector;

* An understanding of the role that an University Ethics Committee might have in deciding about these matters;

* An ability to identify and analyse a range of the ethical issues which University Ethics Committees face on a regular basis.
